LED DISPLAY
BASIC TERMINOLOGY
KEY TERMS OVERVIEW
CORE TERMS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Pixel
A pixel is the smallest element of an LED display. Thousands of pixels work together to create the images, videos, and animations shown on the screen.

Brightness
Brightness refers to the amount of light produced by an LED display and is measured in nits. Higher brightness levels improve visibility, especially in outdoor environments and direct sunlight.

SMD
Surface-Mount Device. The type of LED package where the LED chips are mounted on the surface of the circuit board.

Contrast Ratio
Contrast ratio measures the difference between the brightest white and the darkest black a display can produce. A higher contrast ratio creates deeper blacks, brighter highlights, and more vivid images.
Pixel Pitch
Pixel pitch is the distance between the centers of two neighboring pixels and is measured in millimeters (mm). A smaller pixel pitch provides higher resolution and clearer image detail when viewed up close.

Viewing Angle
The maximum angle from which the display can be viewed with acceptable
image quality. Wider angle = better visibility.

and receiving cards.
A smaller section containing
LEDs and circuitry that fits
into a cabinet.
Measure in Hz. The number of
times per second the display
updates images. Higher rate
reduces flicker.
The color apperance of white
light, measure in Kelvin (K)
of the image.
Indicates the level of protection
against dust and water.
